Artwork created for the 20-year anniversary of Journal of Visual Art Practice. A peer-reviewed journal published by Taylor & Francis. https://doi.org/10.1080/14702029.2021.1995928

The drawing imagines 20 journeys. One for every volume or year of this journal. Each journey visits the countries of the authors. So instead of focussing on the readers and related citation metrics, I choose to look at where the articles come from and I mapped it out to show an artworld as it is described in this journal. Clearly, starting from a UK & European-centered background it is starting to open up and diversify. The published version shows all 20 years combined. Below you can see how this developed over the 20 years of publications.

Journal Journeys forms part of the article “A visual, journal practice: Journal of Visual Art Practice, twenty years on” by Jane Birkin, Ed D’Souza and Sunil Manghani in which the (new) editors show very vividly how they are thinking about widening authorship geographically and in terms of how a journal is published. Which new formats might explore the new ways of art practice better? I am looking forward to see how the un/der/published artworld will be invited to take part in the next 20 years of the journal. Have a look!
