The works in the series Labyrinth consists of repetitions of text and coloured lines creating intricate abstract patterns and architectural spaces seen in perspective.
Labyrinth started as a wallpaper design for my exhibition at John Hansard Gallery. As part of the installation, I covered 4.5 m high walls with this design.
To develop this idea further, I plan to create a new installation covering walls and floors. The Labyrinth collages are part of an installation proposal.

If you look at the work up close you can see that the patterns consist of words repeated many times. The textual element links back to the events that have taken place in the same room as the artwork. As a result, the artwork is an elaborate catalogue of the history of that space. For example, Labyrinth_WD 2  links to exhibition histories and Labyrinth_WD5 links to the viewer and lists our human rights. Ideally, I like to make the artwork site-specific and I am interested in commissions to create new work where the text is created in collaboration with the collector/users of the space.
To visualise the text I use my typeface Being Human which creates an additional layer or dimension within the artwork. There is a build-up of layers from the macro plan of the installation to the wall designs and to the design of the individual letters.  Each letter represents a micro-unit of the art installation.

So far, the Labyrinth series consists of five collages on aluminium. The latest addition is Labyrinth_WD5. The collage shows the installation layout of multiple rooms of different sizes based on the Fibonacci sequence. This sequence is a series of numbers related to growth in nature: starting with 0, 1, 1, 2, x. To find the next number you add the previous two numbers, and so on.

The series Labyrinth consists of unique collages mounted on aluminium panels with a welded aluminium subframe. 800 x 600 x 20 mm (31.5 x 23.5 in) It creates a work that floats in front of the wall, ready to hang.

The collages on aluminium are available through ARTIQ

Prints from this series are available from saatchiart They are available as limited editions of 50. One print is available as a unique print (edition 1 of 1).
