Exhibition: Unconsumable Global Luxury Dispersion on Instagram 22 March 2018 till the end. https://www.instagram.com/vvvr___/
An Insta-Expo for robots learning how to be human in a digital world. The exhibition on Instagram (starting on the 22nd of March 2018) shows one artwork a day. Each artwork is a hybrid between artwork exhibited at the John Hansard Gallery and my project UGLyD. A textual, big data, archival and time-based work that explores the boundaries of being human in a digital world and the boundaries of dispersed artworks. What are the boundaries of an artwork or the reach of an artist in the extended network of physical galleries and online websites? The work unfolds over time on Instagram as one image of it will be uploaded each day with no end date in sight.
The Instagram exhibition anticipates my upcoming gallery exhibition. In the gallery, the work will exist as a digital screen display, where it will have a different time scale and rhythm and during the gallery exhibition, the two will run alongside each other.
The sequence of images follows the exhibition history of the John Hansard Gallery, starting with the earliest shows. By creating this work I am not only linking back to what has been but I am also looking ahead to the future of exhibitions and how artworks might exist in different forms and possibly hybridise into yet unknown forms in unknown contexts.

The text also includes a link to the author’s website. It is one of the few places within Instagram that allows you to escape its closed system. As Instagram is part of Facebook it is set up to only take advantage of an open internet system by catching internet activity, that is, the viewers time onscreen. Once the viewer is caught it does not want you to leave. In other words, it is very much structured like a giant fishnet. Currently, Facebook is in the middle of a storm about their dubious privacy practices, allowing apps or third parties to gather information on users’ networks of friends and selling it on for commercial and political advertising. This context gives the artwork’s title Unconsumable Global Luxury Dispersion on Instagram a whole new dimension.
